1 dead in shooting along I-110 near Government Street exit; no motive given, no suspects named
BATON ROUGE — Police said Sunday a 22-year-old man was killed while driving along Interstate 110 near the Government Street exit when shots were fired from a nearby vehicle.
Baton Rouge Police said the shooting occurred in the northbound lanes of I-110 about midnight Saturday. Antoine Bowie was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger was injured. The passenger is expected to survive.
Police did not say whether they have determined a motive or have suspects, but they do not believe it was random.
“The individuals that pulled alongside the victims car shot into the car. So they were targeting that particular car during this shooting. So, it's unclear to say for certain that it was random, but we would lean toward that the shooting was not random and the persons in this car was targeted," said Lt. L'Jean McKneely with BRPD.
Antoine Bowie criminal records dates back at least to when he and his brothers were arrested in a double shooting when he was 16. Police records from that case indicate Bowie was in a gang but did not say which one.
State prison records indicate Bowie was released from prison most recently on August 6th.
