BATON ROUGE — A 19-year-old was killed in a nine-car pileup along North Foster Drive that left seven others injured Sunday afternoon. 

The Baton Rouge Police Department said that the crash happened near the intersection with Prescott Road shortly before 12 p.m.

BRPD said the driver of the Malibu, 19-year-old Terrance Ruffin, was killed in the crash. Seven others were taken to hospitals and one of the injured is in critical condition. 

Police said a driver of a Kia Sorento in the left lane hit the rear driver's side door of the car to its right, a Chevrolet Malibu, sending both spinning into oncoming traffic. The Kia hit a third car and the two rolled. Another vehicle ran into the Malibu. 

A crushed red sedan was among several vehicles left damaged at the scene. One of the vehicles that flipped ended up against cars parked at a nearby church.

Toni Holliday was inside Revelation and Wisdom Ministries for Sunday service when the crash happened outside. When she walked out, she found a scene of widespread damage.

"It literally looked like a scene from a horror movie," Holliday said. "It had cars out there, it had people screaming and hollering. It had people laying on the ground."

Holliday says one of the vehicles that ended up against the parked cars was her own. She says she was relieved no one from the church was inside the vehicles at the time.

"I'm just grateful that we were not in the vehicle, because it probably could have been worse," Holliday said. "So I'm just thankful that we were inside."

She then turned her attention to people hurt in the crash, including a child she saw on the ground.

"All I could think about is my grandchild," Holliday said. "I have a 5-year-old granddaughter and all I could think about is, you know, I would want somebody, you know, there to help."

The cause of the crash has not been released. Holliday says people who spend time along this stretch of North Foster Drive have worried about speeding there long before Sunday's wreck.

"We have accidents all the time, but not to this extent," Holliday said. "They kind of use Foster as a drag way, so they're always speeding."

She says she would like to see something done to slow drivers down.

"Probably increased patrol, speed bumps, something because they really like, drive fast, like they're on the main highway," Holliday said.
