DONALDSONVILLE — Ascension Parish voted multiple people to the parish’s school board on Tuesday.

In District 1, four people who are looking to replace current member Robyn Delaney ran: Democrats Vera Jones, Steven Joseph and Natalie Sullivan as well as Republican Michael Wright. Jones and Wright finished with the highest percentages of the vote at 32% and 28%, respectively, leading those two to head to runoff.

In District 3, Democrats Torey Bennett and Rochelle Darville looked to fill Julie Blouin’s seat.

Darville described her main goal, if elected, as maintaining the “high quality and academic excellence that Ascension Parish is known for, while ensuring we reach the students who have not yet achieved their academic goals.”

Darville won with 66% of the vote.

For the District 4A seat, Vickie Tolliver Auguste (no party) ran against Republican Marty Bourgeois.

Auguste, a three-time graduate of Southern University, said she wants to ensure academic excellence in the parish, advocate for higher teacher pay and to be a visible, available resource for parents and community members.

Bourgeois won the seat with 65% percent of the vote.

Republican Greg Hillensbeck and Breigh Rainey Rhodes (no party) ran against each other to fill Taft Kleinpeter’s seat.

Hillensbeck described himself as a lifelong resident of District 5, with his main goals being to ensure the safety of students, teachers and support staff. He also says he wants to maintain academic excellence in Ascension Parish and ensure the parish is recruiting and retaining the best teachers.

Rhodes, who has won several awards for her work in public education, including a National Geographic Fellowship to Antarctica and the national Grand Prize in Disney's Planet Challenge, says she wants safe and supportive learning environments.

Rhodes also says she wants high-quality, future-ready learning for students, to retain the parish’s teachers and to collaborate with the board.

Hillensbeck won the seat with 62 % of the vote.

Three people ran to fill Louis Lambert’s seat for District 6B: Republicans Sandra Denham-Lightfoot and Bart Himel, as well as Landon Lambert (no party).

Denham-Lightfoot, a retired teacher who taught for 40 years, says her main goals if elected are to “support the academic excellence of students, the whole health of the student and the rights of educators to be protected and supported.”

Himel and Denham-Lightfoot finished with the highest percentages of the vote at 39% and 38%, respectively, leading those two to head to runoff.

Multiple constables and justice of the peace seats in Ascension Parish were filled on Tuesday.

For the 2nd Justice Court constable, two Republicans ran against each other. Thomas Mayeaux and Danny Thibodeaux ran for the seat, with Mayeaux winning by 56%.

For constable of the 3rd Justice Court, Clint Boe, no party, ran against Republican James LeBlanc. LeBlanc said that putting the safety of his residents first and giving them fair due process in the judicial system are his goals.

LeBlanc won the seat with 65% of the vote.

In the 2nd Court Justice of the Peace race, James Landry and Christie Mayeux, both Republicans, ran for the seat. Mayeaux won the seat with 66% of the vote. Two Republicans, John Hebert and Lynelle Johnson, also ran for the 3rd Court Justice of Peace seat; Johnson won that seat with 56% of the vote.
