BAKER — The gun a Baker High School student allegedly brought to football campus over the weekend has been found off campus grounds, school leadership announced on Monday.

The Baker High School student was arrested on Monday after allegedly bringing a gun to football practice in his backpack on Sunday. Administrators received a report about Sunday’s alleged incident and notified Baker Police, who questioned the student. As a result, Baker police increased their presence on campus on Monday and additional security measures were taken. 

“Helix and the City of Baker School System have a zero tolerance policy with respect to guns on campus and violators will be punished. Louisiana law also prohibits firearms on school property,” a statement from the school reads. “Please know the safety of our students and staff is always our number one priority. We encourage parents to please talk to your children about guns and gun violence, particularly if you have guns in your home.”

Out of an abundance of caution, Baker High School will operate virtually on Tuesday to allow officers to continue their investigation.
