BATON ROUGE — The bond has been set for a now-fired Baton Rouge Police officer who authorities allege stole a gun that was once seized as evidence.

Stefan Jones, 32, who was investigated five separate times during his tenure at the department, was been arrested again on Wednesday, this time accused of stealing a gun that was once seized as evidence. Jones faces charges of theft of a firearm and malfeasance in office, and his bond has been set at $25,000.

According to arrest documents, two guns were seized at Club Emotions Bar and Lounge on Nov. 23, 2025, with one of the guns being reported stolen and the other having never been reported stolen but believed to be stolen. Jones, who was still employed as a BRPD officer at the time, took the guns into his patrol unit.

Police added that a disturbance eventually broke out at the scene. A firearm check was delayed throughout the investigation because of this and other disturbances, police said.

In body camera footage reviewed by the officers, Jones can be heard complaining that the guns were placed into his unit, the police report adds. Six officers observed the guns being placed into Jones' unit.

One of the two guns seized—a rifle—was eventually retrieved by a different officer to place into evidence and write an arrest warrant for the suspect it was seized from.

The officer added that he did not do anything with the pistol because "Jones advised he would take care of it."

One of the officers later claimed that Jones was rumored to have left two guns in an apartment he moved out of after this incident.

Jones was living in an apartment along Nicholson Drive at the time as a courtesy officer, but was in the process of moving out for the next tenant, who was another BRPD officer who would be replacing Jones as courtesy officer, police said in a report.

When maintenance went into the apartment, they found multiple guns in "extremely sketchy" locations and conditions. Jones was then contacted and told he had 72 hours to pick up his property, officials added.

Due to Jones not technically living there anymore and the guns that were left behind, the locks were immediately changed.

Police added that, when the new courtesy officer moved in, the guns were still present in the home. Jones later told maintenance that the guns were not his and that "they're throwaways." Jones also told maintenance he got the guns "off a suspect he detained and the guns didn't belong to the suspect."

"Jones told maintenance that he didn't feel like dropping the firearms into evidence and doing all the paperwork, so he just kept them," the police report says.

Nearly a year later, on Wednesday, Jones' truck at his new home along Scholars Avenue was raided, and a loaded gun seized. Police said Jones admitted to having the gun in question but did not remember what happened to it. He also told police that he had another firearm that he retrieved from a suspect several years back that was at his parents' house. He also admitted to never dropping this gun off to evidence.

Police later seized this other gun from a search of Jones' parents' home on Gloria Drive.

Jones was most recently arrested for a December 2025 incident where he allegedly groped a gas station employee.

He was also suspended in 2019 after pulling his taser at Tigerland to disperse a crowd after bars closed. In 2021, Jones admitted to falsifying military orders to take time off while Hurricane Ida approached. In 2022, he damaged an air-conditioning unit at a body shop before driving off. In 2025, Jones hit someone on a bicycle while driving to a call.
