Cajun Army needs volunteers to answer the call
BATON ROUGE – About two dozen soldiers with the Cajun Army gathered for a prayer vigil at the State Capitol Sunday.
The soldiers say they are looking for direction in their effort to help flood victims in need. Crews spent the day in French Settlement gutting the home of an elderly man who could not afford the repairs.
“They saved my life,” John Meaulance said. “I can tell you that. They’re out here. They are doing all this for me.”
The Cajun Army says need more volunteers to help clear a list of 250 flood damaged homes that still need to be gutted or cleaned out.
“We’re dealing with elderly. We’re dealing with people with special needs and they’re sick and so they can’t do it themselves,” Tricia Jo Hoffman said. “So they need volunteers like us to come in and help them out.”
While the Cajun Army does not accept any monetary donations, the group said it does accept material goods.
“Once they realize we don’t want their money and we’re all volunteers, people have immediately identified with that and want to join the fight,” Chris King said.
