BATON ROUGE — A free wellness workshop will mark 10 years since the Great Flood of 2016.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Library and the Louisiana Psychological Association are hosting the Remembrance & Recovery: 10-year Anniversary Wellness Workshop. Organizers designed it to support community healing and help people affected by the flood process those memories in a safe and supportive setting.

Mental health professionals note that major milestones after environmental disasters can bring anniversary reactions, when people re-experience stress, grief or anxiety tied to the original trauma.

The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12 at the Main Library. The event is free, and lunch will be provided for registered participants.

Facilitators include Darlyne Nemeth, Judy Kuriansky, Charles Burchell, Gail Gillespie, Pat Shingleton and Vanessa Washburn. Medical advisor Richard G. Gaynor and spiritual advisors Todd Vickery and Tom Clark will also support the event.

Small group discussions will help participants share their experiences and learn practical coping tools.

The event is free and open to anyone affected by the 2016 flood. Pre-registration is encouraged at the reference desk at any East Baton Rouge Parish Library branch, through the official event page on the EBR Public Library website or by phone through Vanessa Washburn at 225-926-7500 and Brandon Riley at 225-231-3702.
