BATON ROUGE — Two people, including a federal agent, were injured in a shooting at Triple S Food Mart on Tuesday afternoon.

Law enforcement, including FBI, Baton Rouge Police and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office's Gang Intelligence and Enforcement Unit, responded to store at the corner of North Foster Drive and Fairfields Avenue store around 2:15 p.m. to assist the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives after one of their agents was struck.

Baton Rouge EMS also responded and a spokesperson told WBRZ that two people were brought to the hospital. One of the patients is in stable condition, while the other's condition is not known.

The FBI has taken over the investigation of the shooting, BRPD said. The FBI also confirmed that they responded to the shooting before saying they could not comment further.

Khoury Brown, a member of the Baton Rouge Community Street Team, spoke about the shooting that took place at the Triple S Mart, which is the same location where Alton Sterling was killed by the Baton Rouge Police in 2016.

"It's a lot of trauma here, this store is very heavily a trauma trigger, something went on here years ago, and I think we just got to contribute to the energy, making things better or creating better memories for ourselves," Brown said.

"We know what went on here and, today, something else went on here, but what can we do to change the mindset, what can we do to change the memory, or even change the stigma, identity of what's going on so that these things don't happen?" he said.

The team's overall goal is to improve the community.

"Our main role is to help, that's basically all we are here to help the community, to be here for the community, to show strength in numbers, just to be support when people don't feel like they have to, to let them know about the resources in place that they don't know about."

"We find out what's going on, try to connect with the victims or perpetrators in the situation, try to get them some mentors, try to get some resources, and even give out lived experiences that would change their mind or set of mind," he said. Brown believes that community engagement is what helps combat crimes like these.

WBRZ has reached out to officials to learn what led to the shooting.
