PONCHATOULA — A Ponchatoula High School student was arrested after making threats of violence for the school district’s first day back at school next week, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker said on Thursday.

Bryanna Kaufman, a 17-year-old senior at Ponchatula High, was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on one count of terrorizing. She has since bonded out of jail.

Late Wednesday afternoon, a tip came into the Crimestoppers P3 app informing authorities about a videoed threat to commit a shooting at Ponchatoula High on Monday, Aug. 10. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Spokeswoman Ashley Rodrigue said the threat said she planned to blow up the school. The school district has communicated to families about the event, Rodrigue added.

TPSO School Resource Officers immediately began an investigation and confirmed the source of the threat was Kaufman. She was quickly located and taken into custody, deputies added.

Sticker shared information about the arrest in a social media announcement Thursday morning, warning residents that the sheriff’s office will deploy extra deputies to remind people to slow down while driving and that schools are “hands-free” zones.

Further, Sticker advised that students stay off of social media with ignorance and drama.

“We have a zero tolerance with this—it’s ignorance,” Sticker said. “We received this tip through Crimestoppers.”
