BATON ROUGE — A large pile of trash on Georgia Street has struck a nerve with one man who grew up in the area. Isaac Patterson says the eyesore insults his family's neighborhood and reached out to 2 On Your Side.

The growing pile of old furniture, boxes, and construction debris is spilling onto the sidewalk. Patterson is watching it grow larger and larger by the day.

"We have repeat events like this through South Baton Rouge, which is senseless," he said.

Twice now, Patterson has witnessed people come dump trash in the area. He stopped them both times, but says he can't patrol the area all hours of the day. In one incident, someone was dragging a couch down the street.

"I'm like, where are you taking that couch?" said Patterson.

That couch is sitting in the pile of trash, left for someone else to deal with.

It's not the only pile of trash in the area of the city. There's another one at the corner of Georgia Street and East Harrison Street, another at Lorri Burgess Avenue near Thomas H. Delpit Drive.

"Something needs to be done about it, I like the idea of putting up cameras, but you can't put up cameras at every vacant lot!" said Patterson.

The City of Baton Rouge is working to install 10 hidden cameras to work against illegal dumping. The lot where trash is piled high on Georgia Street is vacant and overgrown, making it an attractive spot for illegal dumping.

"It saddens me. Just out of respect for your neighborhood, you shouldn't want this kind of stuff to occur and be okay with it," said Patterson.

Those hidden cameras will be moved every so often to catch people dumping. The city hopes to have them working by the end of the year and promises to find those the cameras catch.
