BATON ROUGE - When Marshall Faulk's Southern Jaguars took the field against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, third-string quarterback Wyatt McCauley was the one under center for the Jags' offense. Southern QBs Christian Johnson and Ashton Strother were both unavailable. Marshall Faulk sat the two and multiple other players for "conduct detrimental to the team."

After his team lost to the Golden Lions 41-10, Faulk was visibly upset at the podium during his postgame press conference.

"All the guys that you saw as a healthy scratch, conduct detrimental to the team," said Faulk. "As we have players who play, we have a lot of players; we need those guys to step up. If they weren't ready to play, then that's their lack of accountability to their teammates, and that's our accountability as a staff to make sure that they're ready to play."

As the game against the Lions got more and more out of hand, it became apparent that some of the players that dressed for Southern had given up. Coach Faulk noticed that as well.

"That wasn't our best effort at all," said Faulk. "That wasn't even close to our best effort... I see what you guys see. And I stand up here, and I'm honest with you guys. I don't want to use the word, but I feel like we had some players- I can't say everybody- some players kind of quit."

Southern's next game is against Prairie View A&M on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2:00 p.m.
