The Capital Area will continue a stretch of mainly sunny, warm afternoons and cool, crisp nights. There is zero chance of rain through early next week. While these warm days will make for pleasant outdoor afternoon plans, dry air will keep fire risks elevated across the region so caution when burning is advised.

Mid-Week Warmup: highs move from low 80s to upper 80s

No Rain: drought conditions will worsen over the next week to ten days

Fire Danger: low humidity and warm conditions will allow fires to spark easily

Tonight & Tomorrow: Crisp conditions will return tonight. Wake-up temperatures will be cool in the low 50s, so a light jacket will likely be needed early. As the sun comes up, temperatures will warm into the mid-80s quickly. Skies will be mostly clear.

Up Next: A strong dome of high pressure aloft will build across the region and hold firm straight into the weekend. This upper-level ridge will act like a warm, invisible shield overhead to suppress clouds and precipitation.

Highs will reach the upper 80s Thursday and Friday, while overnight lows will settle comfortably in the lower 50s. The unseasonable warmth will peak on Saturday with highs near 90 degrees. Sunday and Monday will remain warm, but highs may start to scale back a bit as the ridge weakens and some upper-level clouds filter the sun at times.

The Tropics: The Gulf and Caribbean remain completely quiet with no tropical threats to the Gulf Coast. Farther east off the Atlantic coast, a low-pressure system (Invest 93L) has a 40% chance of developing into a brief subtropical storm over the next few days. It will bring rough surf and high winds to portions of the East Coast before moving northeast into the Atlantic Ocean.
