Tonight & Tomorrow: Rain showers associated with Tropical Storm Edouard will taper off this evening as daytime warmth fades. A sticky night will follow with overnight lows in the mid 70s. On Wednesday, the atmosphere will warm slightly, causing a temporary cutback in the number of pop-up showers and thunderstorms. Isolated activity is expected. Otherwise, skies will be partly sunny with afternoon highs in the mid 90s.

Up Next: By Thursday and Friday, another pocket of tropical moisture will slide into the region from the eastern Gulf. Another uptick in the daily shower count will be the result, with scattered showers and thunderstorms and 50-70% coverage. While widespread flooding is unlikely, these storms will be efficient rainmakers, capable of dumping quick downpours, generating frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and producing gusty winds. A significantly busy weekend is ahead. In addition to Labor Day, both LSU and Southern will host their first football games and tailgates. Weather will certainly not threaten washouts, but some disruptions are possible. Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast, especially on Saturday. Any storms could bring briefly heavy rain and lightning – a sure threat to anyone outside. Know an adequate lightning shelter nearby, which means an enclosed structure fixed to the ground. As far as temperatures go, it will still be hot and humid with highs in the low to mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s.

The Tropics: Tropical Storm Edouard officially made landfall early Tuesday afternoon near Johnson Bayou, Louisiana, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. As the storm moves further inland over southeast Texas, it will rapidly weaken and spin down. Aside from Edouard, no other tropical systems are expected to develop in the Gulf, Caribbean or Atlantic.
