Two Riveroaks Elementary teachers on leave after video of preschool classroom fight surfaces
BATON ROUGE — Two Riveroaks Elementary School teachers have been placed on administrative leave after they recorded multiple preschool students piling onto one of their classmates in a fight.
A parent and grandparent that have kids that attend Riveroaks Elementary say the incident is not surprising. Claiming teachers don't step in when fights or bullying occur on campus.
"That's impressionable on that kid. It's saying it's okay to beat anybody up and I won't get checked. I won't be reprimanded for this. And this happens all the time. My granddaughter was picked on last year because she's very small and she wears glasses. And it's like they stand there and watch them," a grandparent said.
"My son has come home and told me multiple stories about how he has tried to stop fights on the playground and the teacher's stand there and don't do anything about it. It's multiple grades and they would bully and start fights on the little kids. He has said that he's gotten pushed down before trying to step up and stand up for another kid in his grade. So I'm not surprised," a parent said.
They even said they are considering transferring their kids from the school.
"I told my daughter, I said I need her transferred. I'm sick of it, I need her transferred. Because next year it may be something different," a grandparent said.
"I'm definitely not sending my daughters here. Without a doubt. No questions asked. I'm ready to get my son out of here," a parent said.

East Baton Rouge Parish School Superintendent LaMont Cole said Wednesday that the two teachers, who were not named, will be investigated as to why they did not intervene in the fight and experience consequences.
A woman who said they were the mother of a student involved posted a video Wednesday saying that her 4-year-old was the one abused.
"My son wakes up crying every morning, begging not to go to school because he says everyone is mean to him," the woman said in her post.
Cole said that he did not know when the incident took place, but that he was informed on Wednesday after the principal brought it to his attention. The principal of Riveroaks said that they were not made aware of the incident until recently.
Cole said he was "completely appalled" that the teachers did nothing to stop the fight, adding that none of the students were seriously injured.
He also apologized to the families affected by the fight, as well as those whose faith in the district was shaken by the video.
