Vikings beat Saints, spoil Drew Brees' Ring of Honor induction
NEW ORLEANS - For a season that began with so much optimism, it's come crashing down very quickly, as the New Orleans Saints lost to the Minnesota Vikings 23-13 to fall to 1-4 on the year. With this loss against Minnesota, the Saints are now 0-3 at home this season.
Former Saints QB Drew Brees was inducted into the Saints Ring of Honor at halftime, and he was even in the booth for the television broadcast on Fox. Despite the ceremonious occasion, the Saints just couldn't get anything going. Tyler Shough was held under 100 passing yards for the game and threw a pair of interceptions to Byron Murphy Jr.
The run game didn't fare any better. The Saints rushed for just 55 yards as a team, for just 3.2 yards per attempt.
The Vikings dominated just about every phase of the game. The time of possession was especially lopsided, with Minnesota having the ball for 39:37, and the Saints having it for just 20:23.
The Saints' season is starting to unravel rather quickly. After a 1-1 start, there seemed to be a surge of optimism after a pretty positive offseason. But since beating the Baltimore Ravens in week 2, the Saints have dropped three straight, including last week's demoralizing loss to the Falcons on the celebration of the Domecoming anniversary.
