Another surge of drier air will roll in to finish out the workweek and head into the weekend. While temperatures remain hot, lower humidity will keep conditions feeling much more comfortable.

Tonight & Tomorrow: As a weak front passes through the region, any lingering showers heading toward the coast will fizzle out as evening arrives and daytime warming fades. Mostly clear skies and drier air will slowly settle into the area overnight. It’ll feel noticeably more comfortable humidity-wise by Thursday morning, with temperatures starting out near 70°. Despite a hot daytime high in the low-to-mid 90s, the lower humidity will make things feel less sticky. A passing shower or light sprinkle cannot be ruled out, but rain will generally be tough to find.

Up Next: A weak disturbance will slide into the area on Thursday night, drawing up a bit more humidity, which could pop a brief shower early Friday. As a result, lows will vary from the upper 60s north of I-12 to the mid-70s toward the coast. Any rise in humidity would be temporary, as drier air takes over again into Friday afternoon. The more comfortable feel will persist through the weekend, directly nudging overnight lows into the upper 60s. Afternoons will stay hot, however, with highs in the low 90s. Moisture will gradually increase early next week, bringing a fresh chance of showers and storms to the region.

Toward the end of next week, there are a few signs pointing toward the arrival of a cold front that could deliver a serious blow to summer. It’s far from set in stone, but certainly something to watch.

Football Forecasts: The Friday Night Blitz looks to be in good shape for the second straight week in a row. Lower humidity, mostly clear skies, and dry weather will make for a comfortable evening. Saturday won’t present any issues either. Early-risers setting up tailgates will face temperatures in the upper 60s. Highs will ease relative to the last LSU home game, with highs in the low 90s. Look for a kickoff temperature in the low-to-mid 80s with dry conditions.

The Tropics: Fay regained tropical depression status Wednesday afternoon after storm activity re-organized in association with its remnants. Fay could briefly regain tropical storm strength on Thursday, but it poses no threat to land and will become post-tropical once again over the weekend as it stays far out to sea.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure moved off the west coast of Africa on Wednesday and is gradually becoming more defined. This system could become a short-lived tropical depression by late week as it drifts toward the Cabo Verde Islands. However, strong upper-level winds should end any opportunity for tropical development by the weekend. This system will not pose a threat to the United States.
