Woman waiting on MHU tired of communication mishaps
CENTRAL - FEMA says it expects to have everyone who has been approved for a Manufactured Housing Unit, in one by January 31.
It's been a difficult road for Kandy Rodgers, who says the communication issues surrounding her MHU continue. She's been told it would be "any day" and "any hour," but she's still waiting on a MHU and tells WBRZ she wants the people responsible held accountable.
"Where's the trailer," she said.
Rodgers, who had 22 inches of water in her Central home is living with family on the other side of the parish while she waits for a unit. With a busy schedule during the week, she devotes her weekends to repairing the house.
After she passed her inspection "with flying colors," Rodgers began preparing for the MHU to arrive. She says she spent about $1,000 to haul in sand and build a culvert to make it easier for the MHU delivery.
"If it's that easy for you, just think, we can get it that much quicker, right?" she said.
Rodgers says shortly after fixing the culvert, a FEMA representative visted her home.

"He came, he looked, he said, 'This is great they should be coming any day,'" she said.
An MHU never came. Rodgers called her contractor, but didn't hear back from them either.
She spoke to someone from FEMA last week about when she can expect to get a MHU.
"They said, 'We don't know. We don't know where you are in the queue. We can't find out,'" said Rodgers.
With all this frustration, she wants to know who's in charge and why no one can give her an answer.
"Is the failure between FEMA and the contractor? Is it between the contractor and is he going to say, 'No it's my subcontractor?'" she said.
Rodgers says there's no place like home and all she wants is to be back in Central.
FEMA says it remains on target for an end of January housing mission completion date. That will hold provided unit delivery can be sustained, weather cooperates and the complexities of installations do not unnecessarily slow things down.
There's a long list. FEMA says there are about 1,800 requests for Manufactured Housing Units that have yet to be fulfilled. That number could change as survivors find their own housing solution and no longer need a MHU.
