FINAL: Southern Jaguars lose 35-17 to Jackson State

JACKSON, Mississippi - Jackson State opened up The Boombox Classic with a three-minute scoring drive that ended in a one-yard rushing touchdown by Nate Blount IV.
Southern's first drive of the game ended in a field goal after an incomplete pass in the end zone.
Jackson State made quick work of their second possession of the game with a 70-yard touchdown to wide receiver Nate Rembert, extending their lead to 14-3 to end the first quarter.
After a long drive in the second, Jackson State's Blount IV gets in the end zone again, score is 21-3.
The Jaguars' first touchdown of the night was a one-yard rush by running back Trey Holly, and a missed extra point made it 21-9.
JSU scored again before the half with quarterback Jared Lockhart running into the end zone.
Jackson State Tigers go into halftime up 28-9.
Halfway through the third quarter, Jags running back Mike Franklin hit his stride in the middle of the field, picking up a big 50-yard run and scoring a touchdown on the next play. A successful two-point conversion brought the score to 28-17.
JSU ended up winning the game 35-17 to hand Southern its first SWAC loss of the season and knock the Jags' record down to 2-3. Five games in, Southern has yet to win a game against a Division I opponent.
The Jags come home to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, Oct. 3.
