A steady stream of tropical moisture will keep numerous downpours in the Capital Area forecast for the foreseeable future. Gusty winds and frequent lightning will accompany a few of these storms. Elevated storm chances will carry over into another busy football weekend in Baton Rouge.
Tonight & Tomorrow: Another muggy and mostly clear night is in store for the Capital Area, with lows dropping into the mid-70s. Thursday will bring more clouds than sun, which will likely hold highs back by a few degrees. Even so, a few peeks of sunshine could nudge highs into the low 90s. Eventually, numerous showers and thunderstorms will push temperatures back down. While a spotty morning shower cannot be ruled out, the majority of the activity will fire up near lunchtime and expand in coverage through the afternoon. A full-day washout is not expected.

Rain rates with some of these storms will be locally intense, occasionally overwhelming drainage systems. Be prepared for slowdowns during the evening commute and anticipate possible delays for afternoon activities. Storm activity will generally taper into the evening hours.
Up Next: Numerous showers and thunderstorms remain likely Friday and Saturday, though neither day will be a total washout. Thanks to cloud cover and rain-cooled air, daytime highs will top out in the upper 80s to low 90s. A ridge of high pressure will expand into the region Sunday into next week, helping to limit thunderstorm development. However, with moisture staying abundant, it won’t shut down rain entirely. As a result, storms will become more isolated heading into next week, allowing high temperatures to sneak back into the mid-90s.
There are no signs of a crisp, fall cold front in the near future. That said, there have been a few hints in the data suggesting a slight cooldown in the September 18-21 timeframe. Confidence remains low for now, but it is certainly a trend worth watching.
Football Forecasts: There’s no need to cancel plans ahead of high school or college football games, but do stay mindful of potential thunderstorms. Storms should remain brief, peaking during the afternoon before fizzling out near dusk. While not a guarantee, passing lightning could cause brief delays or force fans indoors.
