2une In Previews: Opera Louisiane bringing 'Madama Butterfly' to the River Center
BATON ROUGE — Opéra Louisiane is bringing one of the most performed operas in the world to the Raising Cane’s River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts.
Giacomo Puccini’s "Madama Butterfly" is being performed downtown for one night only on April 11 at 7 p.m.
The production stars Teresa Perrotta, a 2023 Grand Finals winner of the Metropolitan Opera’s prestigious Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition and recipient of the 2023 Sullivan Foundation Award. Perrotta's debut as Butterfly, one of the most celebrated roles in opera, will be the Baton Rouge performance.
“I’m thrilled to bring ‘Madama Butterfly’ to Baton Rouge and to give the capital city the opportunity to experience extraordinary talent at the beginning of their careers. It’s another example of our commitment to bring world-class opera to the region,” Opera Louisiane General Director Paul Groves said.
In addition to the performance of the famed opera, Opéra Louisiane is hosting a screening of the 1974 cinematic version of “Madama Butterfly" on April 6 from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Main Library on Goodwood Boulevard, as well as a screening of the documentary "Giacomo Puccini: The End of the Voice" on April 7 at 2 p.m., also at the Main Library.
