LIVINGSTON — A 500-megawatt battery storage project proposed to help an unidentified commercial development in Livingston Parish with large electricity needs is moving through an expedited regional review process, Daily Report reported on Wednesday.

The Midcontinent Independent System Operator, or MISO, in an announcement last week said that Steamboat Energy Storage, a project proposed by NextEra Energy Capital Holdings, would provide 500 MW of new battery storage in Louisiana.

More detailed records identify Livingston Parish as the location for the project in Livingston Parish and name Entergy Louisiana as the transmission owner. Online records propose a June 30, 2028, in-service date. 

Notably, records describe the project as supporting a new, incremental load of a “commercial entity” requiring between 330 and 360 MW of capacity—the identity of which has not been named.

It remains unclear who the commercial customer is, where in Livingston Parish that customer plans to locate and whether the Steamboat project is connected to the data center speculation.
