BATON ROUGE —  A man previously arrested for contractor fraud was arrested on similar fraud charges on Thursday by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office.

On Oct. 27, deputies spoke with a man who claimed he hired John Stacey of Compton Builders to perform various repairs and improvements to his residence.

The man claimed that Stacey allegedly told him he needed to fix the foundation of his home due to issues with the house's brickwork. A licensed contractor later told the man that the brickwork was not connected to the foundation, with the man claiming that Stacey misrepresented the condition of his home in order to be hired.

According to arrest records, Stacey, who presented himself as a licensed contractor, claimed that the permits were not required for the repairs and did not provide the man with a written contract or formal estimate before work began.

Stacey allegedly later provided documentation with the amount being owed being listed as $78,000, which is in violation of the Home Improvement licensing requirements.

Stacey was previously arrested on June 23 for residential contractor fraud, where it was learned that Stacey's contractor's license was from Seattle.

In May, the Louisiana State Licensing Board of Contractors received several complaints that Stacey was allegedly scamming the elderly, with detectives learning that Stacey was not licensed to perform work over $50,000 and that the Home Improvement license for Compton Builders was suspended in August 2025. He also previously served federal time for tax evasion related to an asphalt paving company he operated in Arizona.

The Licensing Board also claimed that Stacey allegedly obtained the Compton Builders LLC license in his mother's name without her permission before registering it with the Secretary of State.

Stacey was arrested on Thursday for residential contractor fraud.
