ST. AMANT — Bayou Ascension Academy hosted its official ribbon-cutting ceremony this week, celebrating the opening of a new tuition-free charter school option to the region and expanding school choice for families in Ascension Parish.

Bayou Ascension is only charter school currently serving Ascension Parish.

Interest in the learning pod has exceeded expectations, with an overwhelming response from families ahead of its opening, according to school officials. The CSUSA pod serves students in pre-K through 12th grade, including a blended high school model that gives families added flexibility while keeping students connected to strong academics and school support.

The school has attracted families from a range of educational backgrounds, including traditional public schools, private schools and homeschooling.

"Our community has made it clear that families want more options,” said David Alexander, school leader at Bayou Ascension Academy. “Families are looking for flexibility, strong academics and a school culture where students are known, supported and challenged while developing strong minds, good hearts and future leaders of character. We are proud to bring that opportunity to Ascension Parish."
