BATON ROUGE - Two people were arrested after a shooting at an apartment building near LSU's campus, campus police said.

Col'lee Bess, 21, and Christopher Hatfield, 18, were arrested for their alleged connection to the Saturday, March 28, shooting at West Campus Apartments.

An LSU Police report says that officers found several bullet holes in the apartment building, along with a broken window. A witness told police that, around the time of the shooting, a man was running from the area toward the 5 Dining Hall.

Bess was arrested early the next morning and charged with illegal use of weapons, possession of Schedule I drugs and aggravated criminal property damage. Hatfield was also arrested on illegal carrying of weapons with controlled dangerous substances, carrying a firearm on school property and resisting an officer.

By March 31, Hatfield had posted a $26,000 bond. As of April 2, Bess remained behind bars pending a $30,500 bond.

At the time of the shooting, Bess was on probation following a 2024 conviction on robbery, gun and aggravated flight from an officer charges. He was sentenced to three years behind bars, but had 18 months of that sentence suspended, as well as being granted credit for time served since his arrest in December 2023.
