BATON ROUGE — A cat and a dog survived a house fire Monday evening at the corner of Lobdell Boulevard and Goodwood Boulevard

The Baton Rouge Fire Department said that the firefighters were on their way to a store when they noticed smoke coming from the eaves of the house. 

The homeowners were outside of the burning house, but trying to get back in to save their pets when firefighters arrived. 

The department said that a cat and dog were found alive and rescued. The cat was treated with oxygen before it was returned to the owners.

Firefighters have not determined the cause, but said the fire was concentrated in the garage area near the back of the house.
