Introduction of 2027 budget, deconsolidation feasibility report both on agenda for Metro Council meeting
BATON ROUGE — The Baton Rouge Metro Council meets Wednesday afternoon and is set to consider multiple key agenda items, including a report on the financial implications of deconsolidating the city and parish, as well as the amendment of the state's current budget for 2027.
The 2027 budget for Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish will be introduced by East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sid Edwards at Wednesday's 4 p.m. meeting. The budget will then be discussed further at a Dec. 8 public hearing during the next Metro Council meeting.
Later in the meeting, following a series of other agenda items, the council will receive a report that will outline the financial implications of deconsolidation of the city and parish.
According to the meeting agenda, the report will detail the separation of East Baton Rouge Parish and City of Baton Rouge revenues and expenses, as well as include a sample annual budget for both Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish. The report is also expected to include a recommendation on the sustainability of the city and the parish if deconsolidation were to happen.
