BATON ROUGE — Louisiana Senator John Kennedy mentioned that he is considering a run for president during an interview on NBC News' "Meet the Press" on Sunday.

Kennedy said that while he plans to run for re-election, he would consider a presidential run if he doesn't think he can be effective in the Senate.

"On my side of the aisle, if a bunch of goobers run, and I think they’re goobers and one of the goobers might win, and I think I could do a better job, I would consider running," Kennedy said.

While Kennedy is kicking around the idea of running for president, he said he is currently focusing on re-election.

Kennedy also declined to speak about the idea of Vice President J.D. Vance running for president, saying "he's not there yet."

Kennedy was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016 and was reelected in 2022.
