BATON ROUGE — The NFL FLAG football league, a partnership with local law enforcement, officially launched in East Baton Rouge Parish on Thursday, opening registration to players and families parish-wide. 

South Louisiana's chapter of the Police Athletic/Activities Leagues, as well as RCX Sports, BREC and the National PAL group, met with the Louisiana Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Foundation at Howell Community Park's Inspiration Center for the launch. 

Coinciding with the launch of the flag football league, the National PAL group has committed $150,000 to South Louisiana's PAL group. Of the funds, $50,000 will help launch the NFL FLAG initiative across East Baton Rouge Parish, with the remaining $100,000 supporting future PALSLA Signature programming across the parish, officials said.

"Today extends the trust-building mission we announced on Aug. 20 into a concrete, registerable program for our kids. Through PAL of South Louisiana, one of LECJF's featured resources, we're launching the first of many programs that will bring kids, cops, and communities together on the field," LECJF's Clay Young said in a statement.

Registration for the league is $45 per player, but the first 400 players registered parish-wide will receive 50% off registration. The league is open to boys and girls between six and 18 years old.

A free skills clinic will be held at Memorial Stadium by RCX Sports in coordination with the league. This will be on Dec. 5.

A kickoff jamboree will also be held at Memorial Park on Dec. 5, with the season running seven weeks starting Jan. 13 and ending with playoffs and a championship.
