LIVINGSTON - An investigation into copies of unredacted parish checks published in a campaign ad found that a council member supplied the documents that compromised the parish's bank accounts, The Advocate said. 

WBRZ previously reported that a campaign mailer sent out by district attorney candidate Sherman Mack featured pictures of checks containing real names, routing and bank account numbers.

Mack was claiming that his opponent, attorney Brad Cascio, works at Moody Law Firm. The parish is a client of the law office. Mack claimed that Cascio benefited from legal battles in Livingston Parish. 

Mack said the images in the political ads were public records, but The Advocate reported that Councilwoman Erin Sandefur provided them. 

She told the newspaper that she was concerned about Cascio's involvement and supplied the records, but they were not redacted when she received them. 

"If there was a mistake, it was a mistake by the administration and not by anyone else. If the information should have been redacted before I received it, who failed to do that and why?" she told The Advocate. 

The news source said the parish's investigation concluded that government officials can view documents without redactions, so procedures for documents provided to the public were not necessary. 

The security breach caused the parish to close its bank account and open a new one, delaying payments to employees and contractors.
