BATON ROUGE — Southern University's College of Sciences and Engineering is hosting its inaugural STEM Game Day on Saturday ahead of the Jaguars' game against Louisiana Christian.

The event, sponsored by Google, runs from noon to 4 p.m. at the Southern University Welcome Center.

The event will provide K-12 students, families, alumni, current students and community members with hands-on learning, innovation, gaming and career exploration, the university says.

The event is designed to combine the traditions of Southern game day with opportunities to explore the possibilities of STEM through demonstrations and other activities.

All STEM Game Day activities will take place at the Welcome Center, with the exception of an e-sports experience, which will be located on the east side of A.W. Mumford Stadium.

"STEM Game Day is about creating an environment where students can see, touch and experience STEM while imagining themselves as the scientists, engineers, technologists and innovators of tomorrow," Lealon Martin, Ph.D., dean of the College of Sciences and Engineering, said in a statement. "By bringing these experiences into the energy and excitement of Southern University Game Day, we have an opportunity to reach students and families in a unique way while strengthening the connection between our university and the communities we serve."
