ST. GEORGE — The St. George City Council has proposed an economic development district that could fund a new sports complex.

The district would help fund a plan to renovate the fairgrounds. Earlier this year, BREC presented plans for a large baseball complex, sports fields, a walking trail and a recreation center.

Mayor Dustin Yates says the project could help the city attract a new charter school.

"We're in the very beginning phases in the process of bringing an indoor sports facility here and a community space," said Yates, "and that's part of that partnership right. It's not just one or the other. They're kind of working in tandem."

A public hearing is set for Oct. 13.
