CLINTON - A Clinton school was placed on lockdown Monday morning due to a gunfight in a nearby neighborhood. 

Clinton Police Chief Ned Davis said two people started arguing Sunday evening. It continued into Monday morning and escalated to gunfire around 9:30 a.m. along Roosevelt Street, which is near both Silliman Institute and Clinton Elementary School.

Students at Clinton Elementary School have not had their first day yet, but class was underway at Silliman. Davis said the school was put on lockdown from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. while law enforcement addressed the situation. 

Davis said no one was injured in the shooting, which took place in the middle of the street, but an unoccupied vehicle was hit twice. Both suspects were taken into custody.
