"You are not alone": Domestic violence survivors share stories of resilience at Baton Rouge panel
BATON ROUGE — Community members and local leaders gathered at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center on Tuesday evening as domestic violence survivors took the stage to share their powerful stories of survival, healing and hope.
Hosted by non-profit organization The Butterfly Society in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, "The Survivor Panel" provided a dedicated space for women to reflect on the hardships they faced and how they overcame them.
The event aimed to break the silence surrounding domestic abuse, connect survivors with community resources and remind anyone currently in an unsafe situation that help is available.
Baton Rouge Councilwoman Twahna P. Harris championed the gathering, highlighting the critical role community support plays in addressing domestic violence.
"Domestic violence is an issue that affects individuals, families, and communities," Harris said. "It is important that we continue to raise awareness, support survivors, and remind those who may be experiencing abuse that they are not alone."
Organizers hope the event encourages ongoing community involvement and education to support individuals and families impacted by domestic violence throughout the region.
