Zachary Police host inaugural 'Boo Bash with the Blue' trunk-or-treat event
ZACHARY — Local families came together to celebrate Halloween early as the Zachary Police Department hosted its inaugural "Boo Bash with the Blue" trunk-or-treat event.
Dozens of decorated vehicles filled the department’s parking lot, where volunteers and officers handed out candy to costumed trick-or-treaters from across the community.
Planning for the gathering began back in April, with department leaders focusing on building positive connections outside typical day-to-day enforcement calls.
"We want everybody to get to know us. Want you to get to know my officers in a friendly environment," said Zachary Police Chief Darryl Lawrence. "You know, you see us a lot of times doing other things, so we want you to see us in another way sometimes. We want you to see us as being a part of the community."
Organizers hope the strong community turnout marks the beginning of an annual holiday tradition for the department and local families alike.
