Hammond teenager arrested after bringing a handgun, pills to local high school
HAMMOND — A local teenager was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly bringing a handgun and pills to Hammond High School.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office arrested the 16-year-old male student, who faces one count each of carrying a firearm by a student on school property, illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile, possession of a firearm while in possession of schedule II narcotics, and possession of a schedule II substance in a drug-free zone.

TPSO school resource officers at Hammond High School were made aware of suspicious circumstances involving a student's vehicle in the parking lot on Tuesday, according to local authorities. That student was removed from class to confirm it was his vehicle. The student was placed under arrest after a gun and pills were located inside the vehicle.
