BAKER — A 64-year-old Baker man died after being struck by a car along Plank Road, Louisiana State Police say.

According to LSP, the pedestrian was struck just after 6 p.m. Wednesday along Plank near Kent Drive.

The East Baton Rouge Parish coroner's office identified the pedestrian as Ronnie Shavers.

A preliminary investigation showed that a car was driving north on Plank in the right lane when Shavers was walking east across the northbound lanes. Shavers then entered the right lane and was struck by the car.

Shavers was pronounced dead at the scene, LSP added, noting that the driver was uninjured and that impairment is not suspected.
