BATON ROUGE - As many LSU fans say, you can't talk about LSU baseball without mentioning the name Skip Bertman.

"This is LSU baseball; this is Skip. We owe him everything. This stadium wouldn't be here if it weren't for him. The field wouldn't be named after him if he wasn't so impactful," LSU fan Taylor Martina said.

Martina was the first person to sign the poster board in front of Bertman's statue in Legacy Plaza. He says he grew up watching Bertman coach LSU baseball, even getting to meet him first-hand.

"Skip took the time to talk to us and sign our baseball, and take pictures with us, and I think it's such a perfect encapsulation of what he means to the community," Martina said.

Just like Martina, countless LSU fans, no matter what age they were at the time, can remember watching Bertman coach Tiger baseball to several national titles.

"LSU baseball wouldn't be where it is today without him. I mean, I was thankful enough to be alive to see the first five national championships, and just the way that the program has grown from where it was when he came here in the 80s to now, look where we are at now," LSU fan Jake Grabert said.

But Bertman was more than just a baseball coach.

"He was just a great person, and a pillar of the community," LSU fan Lynn Kennedy said.

Skip Bertman, an LSU legend, his life and legacy, LSU fans say they will never forget.

"He had such a presence, and every time he came around and showed his face in public, he would shake hands; he was very personable, and his impact and the legacy that he led for LSU was just unsurpassed, I believe," LSU fan Nathan Williams said.
