MORGANZA — A body was recovered near the Morganza Spillway last night after a man was reported missing while fishing in the area, according to the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said it was notified at around 8 p.m. of a report that a man who had been bank fishing in the area could not be located. Search and rescue operations were immediately started.

At around 9:45 p.m., search and rescue personnel recovered a body from the area.

No identification has been released pending notification of the individual's family.

The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation and the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff's Office said it will release additional information when it becomes available.
