PORT ALLEN — A 16-year-old Port Allen High School student was arrested after allegedly making a written threat on campus that referenced an ongoing trend that uses the "Cat in the Hat" to threaten violence at local schools.

According to West Baton Rouge Parish deputies, the threat was found on the morning of Sept. 3. After the report of the threat being found, school resource officers established safety protocols while detectives began an investigation into the threat.

Additional security was put on campus following the threat.

On Tuesday, deputies said that a teen student confessed to writing and leaving the note on campus. He was then arrested and charged with terrorizing. He was booked into a juvenile detention facility following his arrest.

"Our detectives took this threat seriously from the moment we were notified and worked diligently to identify the person responsible. I commend our deputies, detectives, and the school administration for their swift response and cooperation throughout this investigation. We will continue to take every threat against our schools seriously and will hold those responsible accountable," Sheriff Jeff Bergeron said in a statement.
