PONCHATOULA — Ponchatoula Police Chief Bry Layrisson said Thursday that a former teacher arrested for alleged sexual conduct with a student is facing additional charges after an additional victim was discovered.

Trey Sparks was arrested Oct. 6 on four counts of possessing child sexual abuse material depicting victims under the age of 13 and one count of prohibited sexual contact between an educator and a student.

On Thursday, Layrisson said that he was charged with an additional count of prohibited sexual contact between an educator and a student, as well as indecent behavior with juveniles.

Sparks' arrest on his new charges is pending his release from the Livingston Parish Jail, Layrisson said.

Sparks was a teacher at DC Reeves Elementary School and a coach at Ponchatoula Junior High School.

Last month, Ponchatoula Police were contacted by concerned parents who located alarming messages between a juvenile and a coach with the Tangipahoa Parish School System. Police seized devices in late September belonging to Sparks and found victims in Livingston Parish.

According to arrest documents dated Sept. 14, starting on Aug. 30, Sparks was messaging a player he used to coach in middle school on Snapchat. Messages included the former player sending a shirtless photo and Sparks asking if the former player was "tatted," prompting another, more intimate shirtless photograph.

Another message from Sept. 3 was an invite Sparks sent to a church event, which the former player said he could not attend. Sparks then offered to "go to the gym" together. Sparks, police write, suggested the former player bring swim trunks.

He is no longer employed with the Tangipahoa Parish School System, officials said.

Livingston Parish Schools also issued a statement saying Sparks taught at Maurepas School from 2021 to 2024. He resigned in October 2024 to pursue "other opportunities" related to employment with another district.
